Kent and Deb Page Residence....

Claremont, California

Updated colors, brick walkway, wood wall with niche at front door.

FIELD NOTES:

Kent and Deb are friends with Linda Lee Worlow (The Little Grey House). They called Indah Bulan to help them update and give a little style to their entry. There were several issues that needed to be addressed. The foremost issue is that the front door is actually on the side of the house---so there was nothing to actually welcome guests. (The Front Door is the MOST important aspect of the home... it the first feature that is noticed first, naturally.) In addition, there was really no way to enter the house except via the driveway (if one could find the door). What we designed, was to remove the old iron handrail (not really that old) which was another block of the front door. Additionally, we built a wall with a shelf and nook (and painted it an accent color) to stand out and draw the eye to the front door. Another major feature we added was a new angular entry (brick on sand) to once again direct the guests to the front door location, and provide them a proper entry. We also changed the colors of the house from a shade of pink (they purchased it that way) to something much bolder. We also chose several different colors to begin to create some contrast and interest from the simple architecture. Lastly, we pruned the shrubs (to create tree from structures) and added a water pot with bubbler. They were so pleased, and just tickled that we had taken their concerns to heart. They now are a jewel on their street! We have also broken this project up into phases, below are photos of Phase I.
