FIELD NOTES: Gloria Howe, what a great lady! We spent about 6 months (off and on) in the Howe garden. Gloria is one of the most loving, generous people I have ever met. Her charm and grace fill her home and garden. Our basic mission was to take care of past mistakes made by "landscapers" but along the way, becauase we had so much admiration for Gloria, we became somewhat of her handyman. This was fine, since we were actually working on so many different projects there and were aware of what needed to be done. One of the major projects was to understand how the waterfall was constructed so we could repair the constant leaks without removing the whole thing. Which we did. We also, stained the concrete rocks to make them look more natural and weathered. We worked on plantings in different areas, and worked to protect the massive oaks that are on the property, yet protect the view of the Historic Rose Bowl, and Old Town Pasadena. This was a wonderful experience as Gloria's charm is hypnotizing and we loved every moment!
